Venezuela’s Maduro Declares War on Elon Musk Amid Election Controversy

Maduro Declares Elon Musk His “Arch-Enemy”

Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro, who has been accused of manipulating the results of the recent presidential election, has taken a surprising stance by declaring war on Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. After securing over 50% of the vote, Maduro labeled Musk as his “arch-enemy.”

Social Media and Virtual Reality Control

Maduro accused Musk of controlling social media and creating a virtual reality that undermines his authority. “Social media creates a virtual reality, and who controls the virtual reality? Our new arch-enemy, the famous Elon Musk,” Maduro asserted.

A Challenge to Musk

In a bold statement, Maduro challenged Musk directly. “Do you want to fight? Let’s do it. Elon Musk, I’m ready. I’m not afraid of you, Elon Musk. Let’s fight, wherever you want,” he proclaimed.

Maduro’s Video Declaration

In a video released on Monday, Maduro, holding a cellphone, accused Musk of planning to invade Venezuela with his space rockets. This video was subsequently shared by Musk on his social media platform, X.

Musk’s Response to Maduro

Musk responded to Maduro’s accusations with a mix of humor and defiance. He posted the video on X, adding, “el burro sabe más que Maduro,” or “The donkey knows more than Maduro.” He also shared a video of Venezuelans tearing down a billboard image of Maduro, captioning it, “The people of Venezuela have had enough of this clown.”

Allegations of Election Fraud

Amidst the controversy, Musk continued to engage with posts about the alleged election fraud. One post suggested that Maduro won with 107% of the votes, to which Musk responded with a laughing emoji. In another post, Musk highlighted a statue of former president Hugo Chávez being torn down, writing, “Adios Dictador Maduro.”

Maduro’s Claims of Invasion

Maduro’s dramatic claims included accusations that Musk planned to invade Venezuela with an army and space rockets. When asked by a user to confirm or deny these rumors, Musk quipped, “Does he have space lasers? Because I do.”

The Election Results Controversy

Maduro was declared the winner of the presidential election after allegedly receiving 51% of the vote. The main opposition candidate, Edmundo González, was reported to have 44% support, according to The Associated Press. Elvis Amoroso, head of the National Electoral Council, stated that the results were based on 80% of voting stations and represented an irreversible trend.

Opposition Challenges the Results

The opposition has vehemently disputed the results. They argue that the National Electoral Council, controlled by Maduro loyalists, failed to publish results from all polling stations, making it difficult to challenge the outcome. Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado claimed that González’s margin of victory was “overwhelming,” based on data from about 40% of the ballot boxes.

International Skepticism

Officials and lawmakers in the U.S. and other countries have expressed doubts about the validity of the election results. Speaking in Tokyo, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that the U.S. has “serious concerns” about the announced outcome.
