5-Year-Old Dies After Bounce House Blown Into Air at Maryland Baseball Game

A 5-year-old boy was killed and another child was injured when a bounce house was lifted 15 to 20 feet into the air by strong wind at a baseball game in Waldorf, Maryland, on Friday night.

The incident happened at Regency Furniture Stadium during a game between the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and the York Revolution. The bounce house was set up in the right field stands.

At around 9:21 p.m., stadium officials called 911 after the bounce house was blown away by a gust of wind, causing children to fall when it landed on the field. Emergency crews, including team trainers and volunteers, quickly came to help.

The 5-year-old boy from La Plata, Maryland, was taken to Children’s Hospital but was pronounced dead later that night. The second child was injured but is expected to recover and was airlifted to a hospital.

Charles County Government Commissioner President Reuben B. Collins expressed deep sympathy to the families affected and thanked the emergency responders for their quick actions.

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs canceled their game on Saturday and are providing support to families, players, and fans. General Manager Courtney Knichel expressed condolences and concern for those affected by the tragic event.
