Spain emerged victorious over England with a 2-1 win in the 2024 European Championship final held at Olympiastadion Berlin, Germany, on Sunday, clinching the title of Euro 2024 champions.
Spain’s offense thrived throughout the tournament, with Golden Boot contender Dani Olmo spearheading a formidable attack, tallying three goals and two assists. Rising star Lamine Yamal, who celebrated his 17th birthday on Saturday, also proved to be a significant challenge for England’s defense.
On the other hand, England boasted an array of goal-scoring talents, including Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Kobbie Mainoo, and Phil Foden, all appearing to hit peak form. However, Spain’s primary focus was on neutralizing Jude Bellingham, La Liga’s Player of the Season.
In the fouty-seventh minute, just after the second half started, Dani Carvajal initiated the offensive play with a skillful chip pass to Lamine Yamal, who surged into England’s defensive third. Yamal then accurately found Nico Williams, who finished with a smart ground shot to give Spain a 1-0 lead.
Cole Palmer scored his second goal of Euro 2024 by sprinting nearly the entire length of the pitch and unleashing a powerful shot, assisted by Jude Bellingham in the 73rd minute to equalize the score against Spain. Palmer took his time to line up the attempt and struck it flawlessly into the bottom left corner of the net.
Mikel Oyarzabal capitalized on an impeccable pass from Marc Cucurella in the eighty-sixth minute. Oyarzabal slid in to finish, putting Spain in the lead. While it initially appeared that he might be offside, the Spanish forward was deemed onside, securing the most significant goal of his career.
