Lamine Yamal’s spectacular goal propels Spain into the Euro 2024 final

Although Lamine Yamal has achieved numerous milestones before turning 17, winning the European Championship is not yet one of them. However, he might only have to wait until the day after his birthday.

Yamal sparked Spain’s dramatic comeback in the Euro 2024 semifinal with a stunning strike from outside the box, leading his team to the final at France’s expense. Trailing 1-0 after Randal Kolo Muani’s early header, Yamal, still 16, delivered a memorable moment in the 21st minute. He collected the ball, took a touch, moved left, and launched a powerful shot into the top corner, leaving French goalkeeper Mike Maignan helpless.

Spain will be the favorite in the final against either England or the Netherlands in Berlin on Sunday. The team aims to rekindle the glory of its 2008 Euro win, which led to their 2010 World Cup and 2012 Euro victories.

Dani Olmo, stepping up in Pedri’s absence, played a crucial role in securing Spain’s victory. In the 25th minute, Olmo’s skillful touches and low drive forced an own goal by Jules Kounde, boosting Spain’s lead. Olmo now tops the tournament’s Golden Boot standings.

Kylian Mbappé, playing without a mask for the first time since his injury, assisted Kolo Muani’s opener but struggled to penetrate Spain’s defense. Despite France’s strong start, Mbappé couldn’t capitalize on a late opportunity, sending his shot over the crossbar.

Spain’s journey to the final was marked by dominant performances, including a decisive win over Georgia and a last-minute victory against Germany. In contrast, France struggled offensively, and their coach Didier Deschamps’ bold substitutions couldn’t break through Spain’s resilient defense.

Spain’s combination of a controlled midfield, a solid backline, and the brilliance of Yamal forms a formidable team. They now look to claim the title.
